6 Reasons Why Invisalign was a Great Choice for Me
My crooked smile was always a point of insecurity for me. I found myself hiding my smile in pictures, cringing at the way my teeth looked in photos, and beginning to worry about major life events where my smile insecurities would prevail. I decided to contact an orthodontist for treatment, and just over a year later i am proud to show off my beautiful new smile to the world. Interested in Invisalign yourself? Take it from me - the Sixth Street Dental Aesthetics, the experts of Invisalign in Pittsburgh - and learn about my sixth favorite things about Invisalign, including:
- Short Treatment Time
- Freedom to Eat What You Want
- Comfortable Treatment
- Less In-office Time than Braces
- Flexible Treatment
- New-Found Confidence
Short Treatment Times
An important aspect of my deciding on Invisalign over traditional braces was the short treatment time. On average, the treatment time for traditional braces is around 2 years. Invisalign, on the other hand, has a treatment time often ranging between 6 and 15 months. As you switch your Invisalign trays every week or so, you’ll be able to see and feel the difference almost immediately. After your first visit, your dentist or orthodontist will be able to determine whether or not you are a candidate for Invisalign and give you a rough estimate on your length of treatment, allowing you to make an informed decision early on in your treatment.
Freedom to Eat What You Want
I’ve always been a huge foodie, and the thought of having to give up my favorite foods with traditional braces made me hesitant to consider traditional braces for treatment. Invisalign allows you to continue eating all of your favorite foods - popcorn, apples, bubble gum, candy, and more - that traditional braces force you to remove from your diet. The recommended wear time for Invisalign is between 20 and 22 hours a day, leaving plenty of time for you to remove your aligners for meal and snack time. Easy to remove anywhere and at any time, Invisalign gives you the freedom to live your life as normal.
My friends would often ask me if my Invisalign was painful or uncomfortable. At the beginning of my treatment, I had some minor discomfort - that only lasted a few minutes - when I would switch to a new set of aligners at the end of the week. About halfway through my treatment, Invisalign switched to a new material called SmartTrack, which is specially-designed for comfortable Invisalign treatment SmartTrack applies gentle force and a snug fit and speeds up the motion of your teeth up to 50%. After the switch to SmartTrack, I experienced no pain in my treatment.
When asked, I would compare my Invisalign to wearing a bra: supportive on my teeth, and I felt naked without my aligners. Not only were the aligners themselves comfortable, though - my entire treatment was designed with my comfort in mind. With 3D scanning that removes the need for putty molds and soft plastic instead of metal brackets, Invisalign was the perfect choice for me. Less In-Office Time
One of my favorite things about my Invisalign treatment was how compatible it was with my busy lifestyle. As a full time student with two jobs, I had trouble finding time to sleep and eat, nonetheless go to the orthodontist every couple weeks. After receiving your first sets of aligners, your dentist will make the call on how frequently you need to return to the office. For me, I came in every 10-15 weeks, and was typically in and out within 20 minutes or so. Because Sixth Street Dental Aesthetics is located in the heart of downtown near schools and businesses, Sixth Street Dental is a super convenient location for students and professionals to get Invisalign in Pittsburgh, even if it means stopping by during your lunch break.
A primary concern for me was that traditional braces would get in the way of my life. During treatment, I was gearing up for graduation, job interviews, and more, and the last thing I wanted was the ‘metal mouth’ look in my graduation photos. Invisalign liberated me from this concern. The clear aligners were (by name) virtually invisible on my teeth, allowing me to wear them during job interviews while still feeling and looking professional. For my graduation, I removed my aligners altogether for the special occasion. This type of flexibility would not have been an option had I chosen traditional braces, and I am extremely grateful to have photos of these memories that aren’t tainted by the appearance of metal braces.
New Confidence in my Smile
Just over a year after starting my Invisalign treatment, I have a new-found confidence in my smile. I can’t help but look at my teeth in the mirror every time I pass by, and no longer dread having my photo taken. As I enter the professional world, I feel more confident knowing that invisalign has helped me put my best face forwards -- and for that, I am eternally grateful.
